Rivington Hall Barn Wedding – An Essence of Why I Love To Be a Documentary Photographer

Sarah and Ryan’s Rivington Hall Barn wedding was an incredible experience. As a Scottish Wedding Photographer based in Glasgow, my main focus is on the Scottish-based venues. Scotland’s heritage lies in its old castles and small barn venues in the Highlands, which are incredible! That said, England has so much to offer. Hidden gems I would love to discover more. One of those hidden gems located near Bolton is Rivington Hall Barn wedding venue.

Although this journal is focused on Rivington Hall Barn wedding day, article will be mostly about the people who made a day. A focus on documentary wedding photography as the way to capture a wedding day. The photographer’s curiosity about the couple, their close friends and family, the wedding vibe, and the staff behind the scenes as essential ingredients to document a full picture.

The Stars of the Day & the Magic-Makers

Rivington Hall Barn Wedding Venue

The first thing that caught my eye was how Rivington Hall Barn Wedding Venue is beautifully placed. In the heart of Lancashire, between the woods.

The day before Sarah and Ryan’s wedding, I went for a long walk, scouting, looking around.. Rivington Hall Barn Wedding Venue feels peaceful, away from any roads, amongst old trees. From woodland to open, romantic barn fields. I was at peace.

One of those places close to nature that makes me feel grounded, away from the busy everyday life. Rivington Hall Barn Wedding Venue feels luxurious, though. Especially the old, big mansion beside Rivington Hall Barn with spacious bridal rooms to stay and get ready in the morning.

Wedding Documentary Photographer – What is His Super-Power?

There are many wedding photographers in the United Kingdom. From editorial, classic style coverage to documentary or romantic vibe and true reflection of the wedding day. It does require an extra effort on the day. A skill or extra sense, more likely, the ability to read a day, the couple and wedding guests. The power of feeling more and seeing more on the wedding day.

I believe I fall into the second category spectrum. Although I do photograph many small details that I believe it matters, and sometimes on bride or groom’s request. Rings, wedding dress, flowers – you name it. Details that matter, reminding close ones who passed away, can’t be with us anymore.

Sarah and Ryan chose me to be their photographer on the day. When you know, you know. Sarah and Ryan were seeking a photographer who would truly reflect their day and keep the energy flowing.

Sarah and Ryan’s Wedding as a Reflection on a Documentary Photography

On the wedding day, it’s impossible to capture everything entirely. But I always aim, as a restless photographer on the wedding day, to capture as many emotions, candids and the general vibe of the day. In my humble opinion, photographs shouldn’t be perfectly crafted but they should be real.

I started a day in Ryan’s tattoo studio in Bolton. Ryan is an amazing tattoo artist. And surely a good lad. He was getting ready with his best pals. Definitely not that glamorous footage as an opposite look to elegant Rivington Hall Barn Wedding Venue.

Meanwhile, Sarah and the bridal squad stayed in Rivington’s luxury mansion with big windows and spacious, bright rooms. I love that raw documentary of getting ready. Like two words apart. Masculine and feminine energy. Although two different worlds, laughs and casual chitchat hide that unspoken tension. The bride and groom’s nervousness before the ceremony.

Final touches, fixing make-up, fitting the wedding veil that made the bridal party stunned and suddenly quiet. All of that meant it’s time to head off to the wedding ceremony. Ryan arrived earlier at the Rivington Hall Barn Wedding Venue, greeting all arriving guests.

As a documentary wedding photographer, my main goal was to create a true reflection on Sarah and Ryan’s day. A great focus to observe people and learn person’s character. Confetti tossed right in the face, every tear, every smile, every fuck up, I don’t want to share publicly. Believe me, your privacy is important to me. Like two wolves fighting inside me, what I want and what I should share.

That’s what Sarah and Ryan’s Rivington Hall Barn wedding was about. A true reflection of their wedding in the photos. To feel back all the emotions when looking at them years later. That’s what wedding photography should be like, in my opinion.

Am I The Right Wedding Photographer for You?

Rivington Hall Barn wedding was a blast and a super fun day. Sarah and Ryan knew they wanted me as their wedding photographer. But they had a clear overview before they booked me. So should you. It’s okay to not have a clear idea of what do you need.

That said, it’s recommended to know your own needs. Would you like to have an editorial style Vouge look a like, staged photos? That’s not quite me. I am not that kind of photographer. But the thing is – being true and present goes both ways. The interactions and energy must be real. So you need to ask yourself what you want. The best way is to know your wedding photographer by considering those points:

  • A photographer’s experience and portfolio should have a clear vision – check it first on their website before inquiry.
  • Schedule a meeting with the photographer. Have a coffee, or if it’s not possible, a video chat.
  • Ask for his full gallery wedding photography delivery to be sure that’s what you’re after
  • Yes, it’s true we are only TOGs, but we are human and personas too! You should like the photographer’s personality. He will be with you and your close ones on the most significant days of your life.
  • Photography is important, but shouldn’t be the only factor.
  • Treat your wedding photographer as one of your guests. A good friend on your wedding day. Well, yes, it’s true you pay him a fee, but remember, photographers are paying bills too.
