For couples who love the Old Town vibe and an elegant heritage ceremony, the Edinburgh City Chambers, with its central location, might be the right choice.
I’ve had the opportunity to capture many intimate weddings and elopements in Edinburgh and witness small ceremonies at the Edinburgh City Chambers. There’s something special about this city like no other capital.
Planning a Small Edinburgh City Chambers Wedding is fairly easy, as everything is central with easy access. Partners on the budget, planning a small wedding and ceremony with a small, close family are most likely to opting for the Alexander suite at the Edinburgh City Chambers and organise dinner or wedding party night somewhere else. Alexander suite is a room designed for Small and Intimate Weddings, with a capacity of over 30 guests, followed by a cosy lounge.
Affordable Small Edinburgh City Chambers Wedding pricing for the Alexander suite starts from £325, as of 2026, depending on the day and time. For more information about pricing and availability, check the Edinburgh City Chambers information page.

How to Plan a Small Edinburgh City Chambers Wedding
There’s no right or wrong about planning one of the most meaningful days of your life in Edinburgh. The good thing about Edinburgh (including stunning architecture) is easy access to so many small, lovely restaurants and venues with music.
Countless choice of places to celebrate your wedding day and the time flexibility of Edinburgh City Chambers for your ceremony makes planning your wedding easy and almost endless with options.
1. Picking the right day, period of the year and time
As can be expected, Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital city, with its unique atmosphere, can be very busy at times. If you are planning a short session with your wedding photographer, I would advise leaving out the table in the middle of the day, especially at the weekends. Period time during the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh in August is most likely to be avoided, unless you enjoy being on the busy streets with so much going on around. In my opinion, it would be a shame not to capture the Old City and its iconic places.
Picking the time of the day for a Small Edinburgh City Chambers Wedding ceremony is highly individual, although I would suggest leaving at least one hour of daylight for your photography session.
One of the best periods for a Small Edinburgh City Chambers Wedding is autumn, with its stunning low light and colours, but with enough daylight. Early spring in Edinburgh is my second favourite season. The romantic and mostly quiet winter season is also worth considering. Last but not least, summertime is great if you are keen on more predictable, warmer days.
2. Edinburgh’s amazing backdrops and photo opportunities
A few minutes’ walk from the City Chambers is located one of the most architecturally majestic cathedrals – St Giles, across the street, iconic Advocate’s Close, one of many Closes of the Royal Mile.
If you are eloping and willing to go anywhere further, Carlton Hill or Princess Street Gardens are very appealing too. For those who are looking for peace in the city, Dunbars Close Garden is such a lovely, quiet pocket of the Royal Mile. Here you’ll find my top favourite places in Edinburgh for couples.

3. Booking your cosy dinner with close family
As mentioned at the beginning of the article, picking a restaurant you like for close family should be quite straightforward. For up to 15 persons, dinner at two larger tables shouldn’t be difficult. The Cowgate alone is bustling with pubs, restaurants, clubs, and nightlife. And that’s only a small fraction of the whole of Edinburgh City. For a larger family group, you might need to plan more in advance.

4. Pro-Tip for the couples who don’t want to spend a fortune on the wedding in Edinburgh
The Edinburgh City Chambers offers rooms upstairs that can be hired for a wedding reception. It’s worth to consider by couples who are looking for simplicity and hassle free all in one place venue. However, as an Edinburgh wedding photographer, I work with couples seeking for something unusual, quirky and even with greater value.
Here’s the pro tip to plan a cost-efficient and hassle free wedding celebration. Some couples, when planning their wedding, tend to split the ceremony and celebration into two different days. The benefits of that solution are clear. It’s less stressful than do all in one day. One of the most unusual venues located in Cowgate is The Rowantree. This cosy, historic venue is ideal for weddings. One of my couples choose mentioned solution. They had a Small Edinburgh City Chambers Wedding ceremony and dinner for the closest family, and a big, wild wedding party the next day after the Small Edinburgh City Chambers Wedding Ceremony.
