The Big Fat Scottish Wedding of Alannah & Callum in Forres
When I received a wedding inquiry from Alannah, I initially wondered where the wedding would take place. Forres, according to the website, is described as being “in the middle of everywhere.” It is a charming old town in the Highlands, located about a 40-minute drive east along the coast from Inverness, the capital of the Highlands. It’s a small town surrounded by beautiful green scenery, with the impressive Brodie Castle nearby and a fantastic local community.
During our scheduled video consultation, Alannah mentioned that the wedding ceremony would take place in a funeral home, which is a local business run by Callum’s friends and family. This was another unexpected detail quirk that caught my attention. Little did I know how heartwarming and fun the wedding turned out to be!
The drive and the morning wedding preparations
Our journey began in Glasgow. My fellow second wedding photographer, Chris Wallace, and I hit the road early in the morning for Inverness. It was a long drive, and we encountered heavy rain. However, when we arrived in Forres, the sun emerged in the clear sky and stayed that way for the rest of the big fat Scottish wedding day. I dropped Chris off at the groomsmen’s preparation house and then drove to Alannah’s family house nearby for the big Scottish wedding preparation.
Funeral Home Wedding Ceremony – Sounds Werid? It Can Be Fun and Romantic Too!
Tom Ross & Sons Chapel is a local business owned by the groom’s family and operated by his friends. It holds a special significance for the family. The wedding ceremony was officiated by a friendly neighbourhood Humanist Celebrant from Inverness named Halde Pottinger, who couldn’t resist making a lighthearted pun about coming together for a joyful life event.
Ultimately, the location of the Big Fat Scottish Wedding ceremony is not as important as ensuring that it aligns with Scottish guidelines and is meaningful and respectful. The ceremony featured both laughter and emotional tears, demonstrating that whether it’s a wedding or a funeral, it brings the family together and evokes a range of emotions.
After the wedding ceremony 150 day guests gathered in two rows outside the chapel for an epic confetti thrown moment. Endless hugs and congratulations as it can be expected from the the Big Fat Scottish Wedding, a wedding guests group shoot and we were off towards Brodie Castle for the family and couple portraits.
