As a Glasgow wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing weddings across Scotland for years, and small weddings have a special place in my heart.
My love for these intimate celebrations stems from the fact I am very passionate about people — getting to know them, understanding their quirks, their love stories.
I’ve always been drawn to nature as well, from the towering peaks of the Scottish Highlands to the stillness of the woods. Small weddings, by their very nature, focus on what’s most important. They strip away tradition and expectation that can sometimes overwhelm larger weddings. There’s no pressure to impress hundreds of guests, no endless timelines to juggle.
Instead, the day becomes about genuine connection — between the couple, their closest loved ones, and the beautiful surroundings that Scotland offers in abundance.

It’s hard to narrow down my favourite castles. To me, the most characteristic have medieval-era Scottish castles: Neidpath, Borthwick and Dundas Castle to name just a few.
Then there are the converted churches, which often combine stunning architecture with a sense of peace that’s perfect for an intimate ceremony. Unbeatable charm, offer St Mary’s Wedding Space. An intimate place run by amazing people.
And for couples looking for something a little more rustic, barn venues offer warmth, nestled in the heart of Scotland’s beautiful countryside. Harburn Barn, Harvest Moon and The Byre at Inchyra venues are on my shortlist favourites.
These venues come alive during small weddings in Scotland. With fewer guests, there’s space to really appreciate the details such as the ancient stone walls of a castle or the glow of string lights in a barn.
